Posthotel Lamm stands for a winning combination of romantic holidays and traditional wellness offers. Located right in the village center of Castelrotto, Posthotel Lamm is a hotel brimming with tradition, surrounded by the mighty Dolomites. Its story has been massively influenced by the infamous Sciliar witches, who always had a surprisingly good relationship with the hotel and its guests, giving them power, strength and health. The local, traditional herbs which can be found all around the area played an important role in the preparation of the witches’ magical potions – and the herbs are still in use today. Ingredients from our very own herb garden are in fact used every day by our very own kitchen staff to help fine-tune their wonderful culinary creations, and many of the treatments offered in our Aiguana wellness area use herbs to stunning effect.

Traces of witch magic

Witches’ Chairs:

Traces of witch magic can still be found today in the area around Castelrotto, thus proving all those doubters wrong who maintain that all the tales and stories of the Dolomites witches are nothing but local myths. If you follow the trail that leads from the Bullaccia mountain (which offers superb views of the area) to Castelrotto, you will see a stone plaque in the middle of the forest, hidden away for generations, with two chairs carved into it – these are the legendary “witches‘ chairs“, a mysterious, much-admired part of South Tyrolean history.

Witches’ Benches:

The “witches’ benches“ can be found in Bullaccia in the middle of the Alpe di Siusi area. The benches are at the center of many folklore tales of which nobody really knows if they are true or not. Allegedly, the Sciliar witches staged wild dances here, and all-night banquets, and used the area to experiment with their potions and magic spells which were hardly ever used to do harm – the witches, albeit feared by many, are said to have been rather kind-hearted after all.
