The story of romantic hotel Posthotel Lamm in Castelrotto in South Tyrol is one of many twists and turns, and there are many legendary folklore tales which feature the hotel. At the turn of the century, Gasthof Lamm inn was considered the place to be for many a noble gentleman who arrived from all over the world in elegant horse-drawn carriages. Located right in the center of the picturesque village of Castelrotto, the history of Posthotel Lamm dates back all the way to the beginning of the 17th century. The legendary story starts in the year 1670, when it was taken over by Josef Iglinger, who ran the local barber’s shop and also worked as a surgeon. Now “Lamm“ of course means “lamb“ and the name of the hotel can be traced back to a quite extraordinary story.
At the time it was rumored that the legendary Sciliar witches were living at the lower end of the mountain. This is where the farmers’ lambs came to rest and eat, and among the lambs was one that was particularly pious. Hence, the witches worked their magic and made the meadows in the Sciliar area so fertile that herbs didn’t stop to grow, so the lambs could stay fit and healthy. Not only the lambs profited from this, but also the owners, guests and regulars at Gasthof Lamm.
From this time on, Gasthof Lamm was owned by several different families, all of which were members of the local nobility, such as the well-known Krausen de Sala family.
The hotel was renovated in 2002 and several new facilities were built, such as the Alpine garden and herbs garden, the nostalgic parlors, Aiguana wellness world and the Witches’ Kitchen, as well as the stunning new suites.
